Gaginang (Chinese dialect: Our own people) is a journey through the history and community of Teochew Chinese people in Thailand mainly in Bangkok. It also promotes the culture to the younger Thai Chinese.
Thailand is home to the largest number of overseas Chinese. Surprisingly the younger generations of those immigrants don't understand any Chinese at all. The successful assimilation played this role. Even though we (overseas Chinese) are proud of being Thai, it's a big loss if one day Teochew culture and language disappear from Thailand.
The project is presented through an ad of lonely Teochew Karaoke and a photo book of the remaining Teochew society (Yaowarat Chinatown, Bangkok). The whole collection is designed with an illuminating neon light in dark and lonely Chinatown atmosphere. It represents how this culture slowly disappears.
